چکیده

The aim of the present paper is to introduce a feature-based ProductProcess-System model and ontology in order to retrieve and share knowledge for simulation of manufacturing systems. Product knowledge is the combination of product specific information, such as functionality, colour and product variants, and the corresponding product model. The model provides understanding of the product structure, rules, constraints and assembly-specific information in relation to the product model. In the design and modeling of assembly processes, features form the foundation for analysis and knowledge acquisition of the product. This knowledge includes geometric and non-geometric information. In the present paper, an approach is proposed to share platform independent product-process knowledge between the assembly process and system design and even with the simulation environment.

An Ontological Approach to support Knowledge Sharing between Product Design and Assembly Process Planning (APP)

Modern manufacturing organizations have to cope with several critical issues arising from the need for mass customization such as short product life-cycles, an increasing number of product variants and frequently changing customer requirements. One of the main factors that could aid overcoming those challenges is the use of information and communication technology (ICT) applications over a coll...

A cost-effective knowledge-based reasoning system for design for automation

Design for assembly automation (DFAA) is an important part of the concurrent engineering strategy for reduction of product manufacturing costs and lead times. An intelligent knowledge-based system (KBS) for design for automation and early cost modelling within a concurrent engineering environment has been developed. This paper focuses upon the development of the design for an assembly automatio...

Towards a Unified Assembly System Design Ontology using Protégé

The current trend in product development is moving towards ever shorter product life-cycles and ever increasing functional complexity. For example mobile phones are obsolete within one year of their introduction to the market. At the same time every new generation of mobile phone needs to provide more functions while maintaining or decreasing its size. Manufacturing and design methodologies are...

Process Capability Studies in an Automated Flexible Assembly Process: A Case Study in an Automotive Industry

Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods can significantly increase organizational efficiency if appropriately used. The primary goal of process capability studies is to obtain critical information about processes to render them even more effective. This paper proposes a comprehensive framework for proper implementation of SPC studies, including the design of the sampling procedure and interva...
